The Snohomish County Youth Chorus was founded in 1999 by Shelley Logan. The choir was established to supplement public, private, home, school, and church music programs by providing a challenging setting for outstanding young singers. The choir is divided into three ensembles:
- Prime Voci—PreK, ages 3-5
- Angelissimo Choir—K - 2nd grade
- Intermezzo—grades 3 – 6
- Bella Coro—grades 7 through age 20
SCYC choirs have traveled to and performed in major cities across the United States. The choirs have won gold medals at Heritage Festivals in San Francisco, San Diego, Philadelphia, Washington DC, New York, and Chicago. In 2009 Intermezzo and Bella Voce ventured onto the international stage on a 10-day tour of England. May 2010 took us to Vancouver, BC where Bella Voce took Gold and Intermezzo silver awards at the Heritage Festival.
The choir has made two recordings: the first produced in 2004-2005 and the second in 2008 in collaboration with Dr. Sanford Wright, producer of The Volunteers of America Christmas Spectacular benefit concert for the Everett Food Bank. Proceeds from that project were dedicated to helping our community.
SCYC choirs are in demand annually for numerous community functions and organizations in Snohomish County. Recent local performances have included the Leavenworth Maifest and Tree Lighting Festivities, Argosy Christmas Ships, Providence Hospital Festival of Trees at Comcast Arena, the Rainier Club of Seattle, and more. We have also been honored to perform in concert with the Everett Chorale for both its 40th and 50th anniversary celebrations.
In 2014 the Snohomish County Youth Chorus was officially “adopted” by the Everett Chorale. We are excited to be operating under the auspices of this wonderful Association. We are also affiliated with:
- Washington Music Educators Association
- Snohomish County Music Project
- Greater Seattle Choral Consortium
"The Snohomish County Youth Chorus was an excellent addition to our Discover Music! Pre-concert activities Benaroya Hall. The singers were well rehearsed, enthusiastic and in tune. The arriving audience members very much enjoyed hearing the wonderful selection of songs, and I heard many favorable comments from staff and audience alike about this choir. I would have no hesitation about asking the Snohomish County Youth Chorus perform here again in the future. Bravo!"
"I wanted to thank you and the Snohomish County Youth Chorus for playing such an important part for Festival of Trees. As you know the room was overflowing with beautifully decorated trees and 265 seniors. And I think every one of them enjoyed the performance. The groups performance was spectacular and I was so impressed with their professional polish. It was truly a pleasure to work with you and I wish you and the Snohomish County Youth Chorus all the best for the future."
"The Snohomish County Youth Chorus shines! The Choir has performed at the Snohomish "Home for the Holidays" tree lighting ceremony and the annual "Festival of Pumpkins". The Snohomish Chamber of Commerce has been proud and honored to have the Snohomish County Youth Chorus volunteer to entertain our visitors. We are extremely grateful that during the "Festival of Pumpkins", the group sponsored and coordinated two weekend pumpkin painting children's activities. These beautiful voices will again be featured at our November 29, 2002 "Home for the Holidays" celebration. We thank Shelly Logan, Director of the choir, for her dedication to this group and for allowing us to share such talent with the community of Snohomish."
