Snohomish County Youth Chorus - Snohomish, WA

CHORUS STAFF

Karin Larsen, Artistic Director/Conductor

Karin Larsen Karin Larsen fell in love with children's choral music as a teenager, when she received a Vienna Boys Choir album as a gift and listened to it for hours on end. Her musical journey has since led her to piano and pipe organ, collaborative piano playing (accompanying), teaching and conducting, Lutheran church music, and composition. She was a board member of the Washington State Chapter of the Choristers Guild for several years before the chapter folded. As a music director, she's led worship bands as well as adult and children's vocal ensembles -- but she especially loves working with handbell and youth choirs and writing or arranging music for them.

Karin received her degree in Music and Worship from Trinity Lutheran College in 2009, after which she was an adjunct piano professor at the school for four years. She spent about fifteen years as a Lutheran church musician, where her duties included worship planning, curation, and leadership; ensemble planning and directorship; directorship of children's music and arts; and more. She's also been a private music teacher focusing mostly on piano since 2012. She continues as a private instructor at the Joyful Academy of Music in Everett, WA.

Karin was SCYC's Accompanist from 2016-2019. She returned as Artistic Director in 2023. Her goal is for each chorister to build a strong foundation of music theory and healthy vocal production, helping them prepare for wherever their individual musical journeys take them.

Aaron Dull, Collaborative Musician/Accompanist

Aaron has accompanied for SCYC since January 2020. He loves making music with Everett Chorale, Evergreen Community Orchestra, and the occasional rock band. He plays piano at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church on Camano Island and at La Connor United Methodist Church. In his day job he drives a school bus for Everett Public Schools.

Aaron considers himself an amateur musicologist and composer. In his free time he enjoys buying sheet music from thrift stores and walking his dog.
